SINGAPORE – Nov. 2, 2026 – PRLog — Swimming pools can now do more than provide a place to relax. Austrian company SKYVOLUTION Energy GmbH has developed an innovative retractable solar pool enclosure that combines pool protection with renewable energy generation. Integrated photovoltaic (PV) modules can generate up to 8,400 kWh of electricity annually, depending on configuration and location.
The telescopic enclosure features laminated safety glass with monocrystalline solar cells, allowing daylight into the pool while generating electricity. It also helps reduce water evaporation and heat loss, improving overall energy efficiency.
Integrating the PV system presented a challenge: electrical cables needed to move safely through confined spaces while withstanding moisture, chlorine vapours and temperature fluctuations. To address this, SKYVOLUTION selected igus energy chains, made from durable, high-performance plastics.
An igus E4.31L energy chain provides a shielded cable connection from the largest roof panel to the ground. For the telescopic sections, igus worked closely with SKYVOLUTION to develop a customised solution based on the 1400 energy chain series, ensuring reliable cable guidance despite extremely limited installation space.
Designed for demanding pool environments, igus energy chains offer resistance to moisture, chlorine exposure and wear. Their robust construction, quiet operation and flexible mounting options support long-term, low-maintenance performance.
By combining customised cable management technology, compact installation and durable materials, igus enables SKYVOLUTION to integrate complex electrical systems without compromising aesthetics or functionality.
The result is a smart solar-powered pool enclosure that brings together attractive design, reliable operation and sustainable energy generation.
