IObundle Announces IOb-Eth: A Professional-Grade Open-Source Ethernet IP Core
16 Feb, 2026
LISBON, Portugal – Feb. 15, 2026 – PRLog — IObundle, Lda, a leader in open-source semiconductor IP, today announced the release of IOb-Eth, a professional-grade, MIT-licensed Ethernet IP core. Designed for industrial applications, IOb-Eth provides a production-ready alternative to legacy implementations like Opencores Ethmac.
IOb-Eth addresses the limitations of older gateware with a complete rewrite in modern, industrial-grade Verilog. While maintaining driver compatibility with the legacy ethoc Linux kernel driver, IOb-Eth offers superior reliability through a rigorous verification methodology, including Verilator integration and extensive FPGA deployment.
Key Technical Features:
- Layer 2 Connectivity: Implements raw socket Ethernet at the Data Link Layer.
- System Integration: Features an AXI memory interface and Python-based SoC framework.
- Production-Ready: Includes a full simulation infrastructure and bare-metal C driver library.
- Permissive Licensing: Released under the MIT License for unrestricted commercial use.
“IOb-Eth represents our commitment to providing the community with professional-quality IP that meets stringent industrial requirements,” said Jose T. de Sousa, IObundle’s founder and CEO.
The project is supported by the NGI Assure Fund, established by NLnet with financial support from the European Commission’s Next Generation Internet programme.
Availability IOb-Eth is available immediately. Documentation and source code can be accessed at: https://github.com/IObundle/iob-eth.
