BeRex Granted Patent for RF Power Amplifier

Manufacturing news, posted

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Nov. 2, 2026 – PRLog — BeRex, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been granted a patent (KR Patent No. 10-3007982) for its innovative technology titled “RF POWER AMPLIFIER HAVING STEP-UP IMPEDANCE TRANSFORMER INCLUDING BONDING WIRE.” This newly issued patent strengthens BeRex’s RF IC design portfolio.

“This patent relates to an output matching technology that turns the package bonding wire, traditionally regarded as a parasitic element, into an intentional circuit design element. By connecting the bonding wire in series with the shunt capacitor of a step-up impedance transformer, a single LC network simultaneously performs impedance matching and third-harmonic trapping, reducing chip size and insertion loss while improving power efficiency.” said Taewon Jung, Design Lead at BeRex, Inc. “We are proud to bring this breakthrough technology to the global RF market and further enhance our competitive edge.”

The key innovation of this technology lies in its ability to implement both impedance matching and third-harmonic rejection at the output of an RF power amplifier using only one inductor and one capacitor. Conventional designs require a separate LC resonator for the third-harmonic trap in addition to the matching network, demanding at least two inductors and two capacitors. Since inductors occupy a large chip area and add parasitic resistance, this increases chip size and insertion loss, which is especially critical for compact IoT devices.

The proposed approach overcomes these limitations by exploiting the characteristics of a step-up impedance transformer, in which a shunt capacitor connects from the transistor output node to ground. The package bonding wire is inserted between this shunt capacitor and the grounded exposed pad, forming a series LC branch that resonates at the third harmonic. As a result, the branch acts as part of the matching network at the fundamental frequency while shorting the third harmonic to ground, eliminating the lumped inductor otherwise required for the harmonic trap.

BeRex, Inc. remains committed to advancing RF technologies and delivering high-performance, compact solutions to meet the evolving demands of the global market. With this invention, the company further strengthens its leadership in RF power amplifier design for IoT applications.
