Industrial and systems engineering hailed for its expanding global reach and influence by Institute’s international magazine
27 Nov, 2022
In its annual internationally focused November issue, the magazine’s Managing Editor Keith Albertson stated, “It’s not hard to find the worldwide influence IISE has established in the industrial and systems engineering universe. … Look at our magazines and podcasts, training and membership growth.”
Problem Solved: The IISE Podcast’s “IISE International”
The IISE community continues to grow and includes nearly 20,000 members and more than 45,000 customers. Organization, university and corporate partnerships have expanded the IISE reach well beyond its original U.S. origins when it was founded in 1948, nearly 75 years ago.
According to “IISE broadens its worldwide outreach efforts” in The Institute section of the November magazine:
This year, the IISE International Ambassadors Committee was formed by the Fellows Council to strengthen IISE’s international outreach and map the global IISE landscape. The committee is co-chaired by Benoit Montreuil of Georgia Tech and Fugee Tsung of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The list of full committee members and highlights of IISE’s international thrust are detailed at iise.org/international.
The article also noted that IISE has introduced a new International Impact in Industrial & Systems Engineering award, sponsored by Hamid R. Parsaei & Waldemar Karwowski, that will recognize a member who has made significant contributions to the discipline as a global leader. This award joins the existing George L. Smith International Award for Excellence in Promotion of Industrial Engineering presented to an individual who has made significant and long-standing contributions as a “goodwill ambassador” for the profession across national boundaries. Winners will be recognized at IISE’s Annual Conference & Expo 2023, May 20-23, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
